The Legend of Zelda: Dawn to Twilight

Introduction-

Greetings! I am Twilight-Prince1002, and I thank you for downloading my custom-made Zelda Classic quest, "Dawn to Twilight". I do hope you find it enjoyable to play! This is my very first quest I made completely from scratch, so while I know I can make better efforts, I definitely consider this a step in the right direction and quite passable for my first quest. It's nothing too fancy like most other Zelda Classic quests I've seen, but I assure you it will be a nice helping of good, classic Zelda fun.

History in making this Quest-

I began knowing about Zelda Classic sometime about May 2010, and I was rather excited to learn that I could possibly make one of these myself. I had already had some game-making practice with programs such as RPG Maker, so I thought I'd give it a shot. But first I had to play a few quests to fully understand what this program was capable of.

After playing and completing a few of Pineconn's quests (specifically End of Time as well as it's DX version), I had a good grasp of what I could expect to do with the program. At first I just fiddled around and made a few easy screens, though a lot of the stuff was still foreign to me. Thank goodness for YouTube, as some tutuorials by BikdipOnABus helped clear up a vast majority of the questions I had about the program and allowed me to learn it at a fast, easy pace.

I eventually got to work on the quest you've now downloaded. Granted, I kinda procrastinated myself for a few months after I had finished making the fifth level, but I eventually decided that I wanted to finish it, and I'm very glad I did.

Truth be told, while a lot of people say that if you want to make a good quest, it's best to plan ahead (and I do agree with this statement), this quest was pretty much made on the go, meaning that I kinda just...winged it, you could say. Despite that, I think I did pretty good, and while the story isn't all too whoopee (especially since I'm not quite expert enough to make actual cutscenes and stuff like that), it at least sets some foundation for this quest.

All that been said, Dawn to Twilight is, as the title somewhat states, my first step to quest-making.

Description -

This is my very first quest I have made, using the Classic Tileset with version 2.10. It took awhile to make this, even though I kinda just made it up as I went along, but I assure you this quest will give a good challenge to Zelda Classic players.

The quest is best played on version 2.10. I have not tested this game in 2.5, so thus if any bugs occur when playing on 2.5, please play on 2.10. Grammer is good, and there are no bugs to be seen, though if you do encounter any while playing, please let me know and I will fix them ASAP.

I made this game to somewhat play like a classic NES-style Zelda game, though much like Oracle of Seasons, the game emphasizes on fighting a lot rather than puzzles, though this quest has a few that, while not head-scratching, will keep the gameplay fresh, or at least I am hoping. The quest provides the staple 9 dungeons to complete, plus several side dungeons you'll go through along the way.

I hope you all enjoy my first quest!

Story -

One day in Hyrule, Link was out fishing, relaxing after saving his homeland once again. As he laid about, however, he began to hear a voice, calling out for his help. Oddly, the voice came from the lake, and Link soon found himself pulled into it's waters, going unconsious. When he awoke, he found himself in an unfamiliar place.

Link later finds out he's on the distant continent of Elmingarde, which is under siege by an evil warlock. Seeing no other option, Link sets out to free this land and release the seal on Elmingarde's goddess, Solaria.

Tips & Cheats -

There's no cheat codes, as the game can be beaten without them. Besides, cheating's no fun.

The game has a somewhat medium difficulty all-around, as to better serve to people who are used to playing Zelda Classic quests a lot. The game does get more difficult as it goes on, but there's always a way to finish it. Keep in mind to check every wall with bombs or walking through. Some bombable walls are clearly marked, others not. A hint house (or tree, rather) has a few more tips for getting through the game. Once you get the Lens of Truth, you can use it to identify bombable and walk-through walls, as well as see what you need to pass obstacles.

Keep an eye open for magic and bomb upgrades. Magic upgrades are free, but you'll have to pay for the bombs. There's a total of 3 bomb upgrades (maximum of 20) and 6 magic containers. Hidden extremely well is both the Slash upgrade (which will allow you to swing your sword Link to the Past style) and the Magic upgrade (to use half as much magic). See if you can find them to make your quest easier!

To slightly offset the game's slightly above-average difficulty, you do start at full health after death. This is also to slightly offset people who enjoy using the F6-->Continue shortcut, in the fact that if you do it in a dungeon, while you will restart at full health, you'll be back at the dungeon's entrance, thus making you have to backtrack. There's nothing in the game that will force you to have to use the F6-->Continue trick, so use it at your own discretion. Or, if you like a more classic challenge, don't use it at all!

Lots of Rupees will be needed to finish the game completely, and to get access to every area of the game. Luckily, there's several spots to cash in big chunks of cash, if you can find them. You'll be needing Rupees mainly to buy Super Bombs to get access to later secrets in the game or to buy potions and important items.

There's a total of 16 Heart Containers in the game. You get a full one from every major boss you defeat, while the remaining ones are split into Heart Pieces scattered across Elmingarde. Collecting four Pieces of Heart will get you another full Heart Container.

There are two "super" dungeons hidden to test your mind and body respectively, and you'll be greatly rewarded if you find and complete them. However, both are worthy of the title of "super dungeon" and will test your mettle and strength in more ways than one! It's also highly recommended you enter these places with as much health as possible and your most optimal equipment at the time, as they cannot be completed without them. Scour these places at your own risk!
